Peach Variety Information
This chart will tell you approximately when a peach variety is expected
to ripen and something about the fruit. The first column is ripening day relative to
Elberta. In Dale, the Elberta date is about July 10. Example:
FloridaKing is expected to ripen about 51 days before Elberta, or about
May 20. After the "(" may be "w" for white flesh. Following is the cling code, "c" for cling,
"sc" for semi-cling, "sf" for semi-free, "f" for free-stone. Following
the cling code is the chilling requirement estimate for that variety.
In Dale, we expect about 600 chill hours in the "average" year.
Varieties that need less than that amount of chilling have an increased
risk of getting damaged by freezes; varieties that need more than that
amount of chilling have an increased risk of having a poor crop set due
to lack of chill.
